The 114th Congress convened for the first time on January 6, 2015, when all members were sworn in the United States Senate and United States House of Representatives.
There are significant changes in the Senate Veterans Affairs Committee. The new Chairman is Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA) and ranking Senator is Richard Blumenthal (D-CT). Former Chairman Bernie Sanders (I-VT) remains on the Committee as well as Senators Patty Murray (D-WA), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Jon Tester (D-MT), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Jerry Moran (R-KS), John Boozman (R-AR) and Dean Heller (R-NV).
New Senate members are Senators Bill Cassidy (R-LA), Mike Rounds (R-SD), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Dan Sullivan (R-AK) and Joe Manchin (D-WV).
The House Veterans Affairs Committee will have their meeting to formally organize the Committee on January 13, 2015. Representative Jeff Miller (R-FL) continues as Chairman and the majority has added five new members, Ralph Abraham (R-IL), Lee Zeldin (R-NY), Ryan Costello (R-PA), Amata Coleman Radewagen (R-AS) and Mike Bost (R-IL). The ranking minority Committee member is Corrine Brown (D-FL) and the only other Democrat member at this time is Tim Walz (D-MN).
The organizing meeting will determine subcommittee chairs and ranking members as well as each subcommittee's membership.
