- Clinical Assistant Professor, Boston University, Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston MA
Dr. Whitman joined the Boston VAMC in 2004. She is a staff prosthodontist and a Clinical Assistant Professor at the Henry M. Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Boston University. In addition to providing dental treatment, she mentors residents and coordinates care for the homeless veterans and fee basis dental programs.
Prior to the V.A., Dr. Whitman had military, academic and private practice experience. While a dental student at the University of Pennsylvania, she earned her M.S.Ed. and began twenty years of reserve and active duty. During active duty, she received specialty training in prosthodontics at the Naval Dental Clinic in Bethesda, MD. Her next duty assignment was as the department head of prosthodontics at the Branch Dental Clinic, New London, CT. Upon completing active duty, Dr. Whitman was appointed to the faculty of Tufts University School of Dental Medicine and was the staff prosthodontist at Harvard University Health Services. When she became the director of the Tufts Dental Clinic at the Chelsea Soldiers' Home, she began her association with a private practice.
Over the past ten years, Dr. Whitman has developed a keen interest in using energy medicine as part of a multidisciplinary approach to pain management. As a certified practitioner of Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy, she routinely uses this modality in conjunction with conventional treatment for patients with temporomandibular joint pain. She is pursuing research opportunities.
Dr. Whitman is delighted to serve on the Board of NAVAPD. She looks forward to working closely with the Board and representing her fellow V.A. dentists.
