Base pay versus Market pay (again)

Base pay versus Market pay (again)

Postby bbanko » Mon Jan 04, 2010 9:08 am

According to my Vista Service Record Screen, my (base) salary is about $100k with a market pay beyond that. (I am in primary care.) But it also lists me as a G15 S3, and according to OPM pay tables the salary for that is about $126k.

Shouldn't my base pay be more in line with the OPM salary table?

This is a similar problem to the COLA problem for specialists where their COLA increases are based on their base pay, but their market pay is more than their base pay. In my case, my life insurance is based on multiples of my base pay which should be $126k, not ~$100k?

My HR rep tells me that the pay tables are different for Title 38.

Title 38 is MUCH different; your base pay is probably correct -- I take it you have been with the VA for 4 years if your are step 3 (grade is calculated by number of years/2 + 1). Go through the archives of posts regarding pay -- you will see many discussions about how the new pay system worked against physicians -- especially primary care.

I haven’t seen any changes in those spots (though I suppose they could be in the works), but we do know the upgrade tax for Windows 7 now, and it ain’t cheap, regardless of which version you select.I didn't OPM has decided to set pay against Congressional direction and make up their own rules again.
