Walter S. Bukowski, M.D.

Dr. Walter S. Bukowski, M.D. was born on Long Island, NY where he attended Stony Brook University for his Undergraduate Education. There he majored in Biology with research in Marine Science. He excelled in Chemistry & Biology and taught as a Teaching Assistant (TA) before attending Medical School at Upstate Medical University in Syracuse, NY.

Following his graduation, he attended University of Rochester for his Residency in Family Medicine. He continued with the University of Rochester as a Clinical Instructor of Emergency Medicine for several more years.  Dr. Bukowski then took a promotion where he served as Vice Chief of Emergency Medicine at Lakeside Memorial Hospital and Clifton Springs Hospital & Clinic.  During this time, he sought to advance his surgical training and attended the Hugh Greenway’s Superficial Anatomy and Cutaneous Surgery program at UC San Diego. He excelled and was invited by the British Society for Dermatological Surgery (BSDS) to the Royal College of Surgeons of Edinburgh to lecture on surgical technique and assist with surgical skills in the cadaver lab.

In 2009, Dr.Bukowski began working as a Staff Physician at VAMC Finger Lakes Region VISN2 Emergency/Urgent Care Department in Bath, NY where he worked for 10 years. During his tenure he experienced the departmental change between Emergency Department to Urgent Care Center (UCC). Prior to Covid Dr.Bukowski transferred to Miami VAMC where he worked as an Emergency Physician during the height of the Covid Pandemic.

Subsequently, he transitioned to a PACT Primary Care Provider at the Bill Kling Broward, Florida CBOC. While at Broward he earned the Director’s Coin for extraordinary service in a life-threatening event. He is currently active with patient care and teaching students at his clinic. He is also active in workplace improvement with Local & National VA Administration, Union Representatives and National Association of Veteran Affairs Physicians and Dentists (NAVAPD).  

Dr. Bukowski has been excited to offer his skills as a NAVAPD Board Member to help improve both Patient and Provider experiences at the VA.
